Hawks Soar Back to Peachtree TV
The Atlanta Hawks, a storied franchise with a rich broadcasting history, are set to make a triumphant return to Peachtree TV after nearly three decades. This significant move marks a new chapter for the team and its fans as they revitalize a partnership that began in the early '70s.
Starting January 12, 2024, Peachtree TV will become the new home for all Friday night Hawks games for the remainder of the 2023-24 NBA season, with one exception. Due to scheduling conflicts, the game on March 8th will not be aired; instead, fans can look forward to the matchup against New Orleans on March 10th.
Historically, the Hawks' games were broadcasted by WPCH from 1972 until 1994 and WANF from 1986 through 1993. Now, the first two games under the new arrangement will receive special treatment, being simulcast live on both Peachtree TV and WANF, celebrating the renewed collaboration.
Viewers across Georgia and Alabama will have access to the live broadcasts via Peachtree TV, major cable and satellite services, and an array of Gray TV stations, ensuring widespread coverage for the Hawks' passionate fan base.
The commentary team promises to deliver insightful and engaging coverage, featuring the talents of the Bally Sports Southeast production crew. Notably, Dominique Wilkins, Bob Rathbun, and Tabitha Turner will lend their voices and expertise to the broadcasts. Additionally, Baillie Burmaster, the Sports Director from WANF, will contribute to the coverage, offering her unique perspective.
Friday Night Matchups
The Hawks' Friday night schedule is packed with high-stakes games against formidable opponents such as the Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, and Philadelphia 76ers. These matchups are sure to be a highlight for fans and a testament to the competitive nature of the NBA's Eastern Conference.
Peachtree TV isn't new to basketball broadcasting, having aired games for the College Park Skyhawks since 2019. This experience with basketball content will undoubtedly enhance the quality of the Hawks' broadcasts.
Recent On-Court Struggles
Despite the excitement surrounding the broadcasting news, the Hawks have faced recent challenges on the court. In a disappointing loss to the Sacramento Kings, the team relinquished a significant lead due to a lackluster performance in the second half. Key players Dejounte Murray and Bogdan Bogdanovic struggled to contribute, scoring only two and three points respectively after halftime.
The statistics paint a stark picture of the team's struggles, with a field goal percentage of just 28.9 percent and a three-point success rate of a mere 21.7 percent during the latter stages of the game. Such figures underscore the need for improvement and adjustment as the season progresses.
Leadership Commentary
Andrew Saltzman, an executive with the Hawks, expressed his enthusiasm for the new broadcasting deal, stating, "It provides fans a new, complimentary way to view the games." He continued, expressing gratitude towards Peachtree TV and Gray TV for enabling this partnership which he believes will greatly benefit the Hawks' local fan base.
Erik Schrader, reflecting on the agreement, emphasized the potential for reaching new audiences while also catering to long-time supporters. "Bringing the Hawks back to broadcast television provides accessibility to all fans," Schrader noted, highlighting the inclusivity of the initiative.
On the coaching front, Quin Snyder remarked on the need for "better execution and a collective approach" following the team's recent setbacks. Player Clint Capela echoed this sentiment, pointing out the team's frustration and the urgent need for a tactical shift to overcome their on-court difficulties.
This broadcast partnership and the commitment to enhancing fan experiences come at a crucial time for the Hawks. As they navigate the challenges of a competitive season, the support and accessibility provided by Peachtree TV and its affiliates may serve as a beacon for the team and its followers. The Atlanta Hawks are poised to not only captivate their existing fan base but also to engage with new fans as they write the next chapter in their broadcasting legacy.
